I had the same problem you did and when I asked about it one of the advisors told me it can only be if the semester with the elective is open (meaning your current semester) and can't be done prior to the semester opening up....this means you can only choose electives one semester at a time. That's why it wouldn't allow you to choose them, you were trying to chose electives that weren't open yet. Once a semester with an elective in it is open you'll be allowed to chose your elective for that semester.
